Schools may be closed, but council road painters might need a spelling lesson or two after this blunder was spotted in Winnersh.
Wokingham Borough Council has been taking advantage of the quiet roads to do some re-marking on the Showcase roundabout.
However, something went wrong.
And, possibly for the first time in its history, the letter R was added to the town of Woodley.
Previously, the marking had read “WDLY” – a clear abbreviation of Woodley which left drivers in no doubt as to where they might be going.
However, the new markings have inexplicably added an R to the town’s name.
The blunder was spotted by Clare Revell, who tweeted to let the council know.
The council wrote back to say the errant R would be removed soon, returning to the WDLY of old.
On Tuesday, April 21, a spokeswoman confirmed the error has been corrected.
