Oliver and Olivia remained the most popular baby names in the UK in 2018 – according to new figures.
The two names were revealed as the most popular for newborns over the course of that year, according to information published earlier this week by the Office for National Statistics.
In Staffordshire both names topped the lists in a number of areas – reflecting the national trend. However other names were on top in a number of parts of the county.
We’ve broken down the data by local authority area so you can see what the most popular name of 2018 was in your area of Staffordshire (as well as Cheshire East).
Oliver was the most common name given to new boys in Stoke-on-Trent in 2018. Records show 35 boys were given the name over the course of the year.
A total of 22 girls were called Olivia during the year, topping the list of girl’s names.
George was the most popular name for baby boys born in Newcastle Borough in 2018. The ONS figures show a total of 22 boys in the area were given the name during the year.
As in neighbouring Stoke-on-Trent Olivia was the most common name given to girls – with a total of 17 babies given that name in 2018
The most popular name for boys born in the district during 2018 was George – according to the Office of National Statistics. A total of 13 boys called George were registered in the Moorlands during the course of the year.
For girls, the most popular name was Ava – with 10 babies in the district being called that in 2018.
Harry was the most popular name for boys born in Stafford Borough in 2018. The figures show that 15 newborns were given that name over the twelve months.
Like many other areas of Staffordshire, Olivia was the most popular girl’s name in the borough during the year – with 18 baby girls being given that name.
In East Staffordshire, which includes Uttoxeter and Burton, Muhammad was recorded as the most popular boy’s name of 2018. A total of 27 baby boys were given this name over the course of the year.
For girls, Emily was the most popular name in the area – with 10 babies being given the name.
The Cannock Chase local authority area, which includes Cannock and Rugeley, saw Oliver emerge as the most popular boy’s name of 2018. The figures show 17 boys in the area were given that name.
As in Stafford Borough and other areas of the county, Olivia was the most popular name for newborn girls in Cannock Chase – with 10 girls being given the name.
Oliver proved to be the most popular name in Lichfield in 2018. A total of 13 boys were given the name.
There were also 12 girls called Olivia born in the area during that year, making that the most popular girl’s name.
In common with many other areas of Staffordshire, George was the most popular name in Tamworth. The ONS statistics show 15 boys were given the name over the course of 2018.
Amelia and Willow were the joint most popular girl’s names in the Tamworth area during the year – with both names being given to eight babies.
George was the most popular name in the southermost area of the county – which includes settlements such as Penkridge and Kinver. A total of 16 boys were given the name over the course of 2018.
Isla topped the chart for girl’s name, with a total of 10 babies.
In common with Stoke-on-Trent, Lichfield and Cannock Chase, Oliver proved be the most popular boy’s name over the border in Cheshire East. The figures show a total of 49 boys of that name were born to parents in Crewe, Sandbach, Congleton, Macclesfield and other areas.
Amelia was the most popular name for girls born in the area – with a total of 32 new babies being given the name during 2018.
