The JD Wetherspoon Gin Festival Returns This Month

Wetherspoons Gin Festival

The almighty Wetherspoon Gin Festival is back again for 2020, launching on 14 February and running until 1 March.

The line-up for the 17-day event includes everything from flavoured gins and gin-based liqueurs right through to non-alcoholic stuff, meaning there will likely be something for everyone.

Showcasing up to 30 gins made in the UK and overseas, the festival will feature many tipples not previously served in Wetherspoon pubs, which will join the gins already listed on the menu.

Showing off some ‘great winter flavours’ will be Aber Falls Gingerbread Gin Liqueur, Edinburgh Gin Apple & Spice Gin Liqueur and Eden Mill Love Gin Liqueur Spiced Rhubarb Crumble.

Looking to the ‘warmer spring weather’ that we hopefully have in sight, there will also be Didsbury Gin Strawberry & Sicilian Lemon, Verano Watermelon Gin and Malfy Rosa.

Promising more of a ‘classic’ vibe is Hawthorn’s London Dry Gin (created in 1942 by Navy commander ‘Skip’ Wallrock and named after HMS Hawthorn), HYKE Gin (founded in Sussex, in 2016, and uses grapes surplus to supermarket requirements as its base spirit) and Griffiths Brothers No2 Gin (an export-strength gin ‘packed with flavour’).

International distillers, meanwhile, include Malfy Rosa from Italy and Ireland’s Mór Irish Gin.

And on the booze-free side we’ll also have Caleño Juniper & Inca Berry, a distilled non-alcoholic.

The Wetherspoon website says: “The gin boom over the past few years has shown us that gin doesn’t always have to be paired with tonic (although you sometimes can’t beat a classic G&T).

“We offer a range of tonics and mixers to accompany your gin choice. If you want to try something different, ginger ale and lemonade are options, along with our three flavoured tonics from Fentimans: elderflower, Valencian orange and pink grapefruit – look for the serving suggestions in the tasting notes section of the Gin Festival News.

“We hope that you enjoy this festival as much as we have enjoyed putting it all together.

“All of this festival’s gins will also be available to order via the Wetherspoon app, so you can sit back, relax and enjoy.”

JD Wetherspoon also recently confirmed to LADbible that its now-famous ‘Two Dine For £20’ deal is back again this year, launching on the same day as the Gin Festival, which happens to be Valentine’s Day.

With two courses and two drinks for 20 quid, you can also upgrade to a bottle of Prosecco of rose brut for an extra £5.

Mains include 8oz sirloin steak, mixed grill, BBQ chicken melt, triple chicken feast, chicken and rib combo, BBQ pork ribs, Mediterranean vegetable lasagne and gourmet vegan burger, while for dessert you can picks from the likes of warm chocolate fudge cake with ice cream, warm chocolate brownie with ice cream, warm cookie dough sandwich with ice cream, fresh fruit with ice cream or British Bramley apple crumble – with, you’ve guessed it, ice cream.

As with all JD Wetherspoon branches, products and pricing may vary depending on where you are, but the pub chain told us that the £20 offer will be live in more than 600 pubs across the UK, so chances are you’ll be alright.
