Customers get great service at the country’s best branch
A Greggs bakery in Berkshire has been named as the best in the UK.
The bakery in Newbury town centre beat more than 2,000 branches to be crowned the Greggs Shop of the Year.
The Northbrook Street branch was recognised for its great customer service and team work and strong sales figures.
Bakery manager Mathew Groves, said: “I’m absolutely delighted that we’ve won this title.
“This is a great accomplishment for our team and testament to their hard work.
“We’re all very proud and we will continue to do our best in providing an excellent service for our customers in Newbury.”
Stores which made the final rounds of competition received a series of unannounced visits by regional management teams to assess standards over the past 12 months, with chief executive Roger Whiteside and people and retail director Roisin Currie making the final judgement.
Roisin said: “This is an incredible achievement by Mathew and the Newbury team.
“It’s obvious how much they enjoy serving their local community and how committed they are to delivering the highest operational standards consistently.
“This award celebrates the excellent retail standards the team have created, they should all be extremely proud of themselves, just as we are to have them in our business.”
The competition has been running for the last 10 years to recognise the best Greggs bakeries.
Greggs has two branches Newbury, the other is in London Road, it runs six bakeries in Reading, Berkshire, and also has bakeries in Woodley, Earley, Shinfield, Wokingham, Bracknell, Maidenhead and Slough.
The first Greggs bakery was founded in Gosforth, Newcastle upon Tyne in 1951.
