Which is why we consulted review website TripAdvisor to find out where the best places for a meal out in Slough are.

We expect people living there to know a few of these restaurants, which serve a range of food from pub classics at the Duke’s Head and The Old Ostrich Inn to the international cuisine served up at the Panjab Restaurant and Kai’s Restaurant.

We’ve compiled this top 10 list based on places with the best reviews of TripAdvisor.

Excellent or very good reviews – 86 per cent

Food hygiene rating – 4/5

Since it was founded in 1988, Tummies has grown to include a bar, cookery school and a number of function rooms for special occasions.

All the food is cooked to order using the best quality and freshest ingredients, with the cooks serving up a mix of British, contemporary and international food with a range of vegan and gluten free options.

Out of 865 reviews, 487 said Tummies was “excellent” and 257 rated it “very good”.

Reviewer Mandy said: “Had a celebration evening for my husband’s 50th. Excellent service and lovely food, we had a buffet.

“Staff were very accommodating and food was very tasty and presented well. There was a different range of people from 12-65, everyone enjoyed themselves.

“Would recommend anyone to visit there.

“Thanks for a wonderful evening.”

2. New Bettola

The New Bettola is a restaurant serving fresh Italian food out of the Colnbrook Lodge near Slough.

“Great service and ambience. If you’re in the neighborhood, or even near London, you have to come here.””We were given a little surprise soup along with our poppadoms and pickles and although not hurried through the menu, each course arrived just as we were ready.

“Had a delicious bottle of wine following a discussion with our ‘food and beverage assistant’ (who was superb by the way)..”

Out of 338 reviews, 196 rated the New Bettola “excellent” and 89 rated it “very good”.

One reviewer said: “The best pizza this side of Naples.

“Woodfired oven makes the difference. Pizza Mia – creation of the owner Toni – is sooo good.

Mr Todiwalas Kitchen is based in the Hilton Hotel near Heathrow Airport – but you don’t need to book a flight, or even a hotel room, to bag a table.

It consistently is among one of the most highly-regarded restaurants in the area.

Out of 496 reviews, 315 said Mr Todiwalas was “excellent” and 106 said it was “very good”.

TripAdvisor reviewer Janeen E said: “Had one of the best Indian meals ever here.

“The restaurant is well designed, giving a hint of India but keeping with the modern look of the hotel.

“The service was excellent and the food delicious and also beautiful to look at.

“Had a delicious bottle of wine following a discussion with our ‘food and beverage assistant’ (who was superb by the way)..”

The Panjab restaurant in London Road is a staple for Panjabi, Indian and Asian cuisine.  It also serves up a twist on these tastes.

Gourmet Chicken Tikka Burgers, Panjabi Full English Breakfast and Chocolate Samosas are just some of the exciting dishes on the menu.

Out of 482 reviews, 321 diners rated it “excellent” and 81 rated it “very good”.

A review from TripAdvisor user Juleysbabes said: “A visiting business contact wanted to eat something spicy, being near Slough the choice was plentiful.

“Parking could not have been easier but the outside of the restaurant belies the gem hidden beyond the doors.

“Service was perfect, and the food was truly delightful.

“My guest was left thoroughly well fed and impressed.”

5. Kai’s Restaurant

Kai’s Restaurant in Bath Road offers Chinese, Asian and Vegetarian friendly food.

Out of 360 reviews, 242 rated it “excellent” and 64 reviewers rated it as “very good”.

Grumpimus, in a review on TripAdvisor, said: “This has to be the very best of Chinese meals I have eaten.

“The Empress Chicken was simple divine as was the Chicken Chow Mein.

“It was so good not even considering anywhere else for the second night.

“Staff are excellent, friendly and helpful.”

Food hygiene rating – 4/5

Steakout is a London barbecue chain that has spread out to Slough. 

It is noteworthy for having 100 per cent halal meat at the restaurant.

Out of 615 reviews, 418 rated it “excellent” and 88 rated it “very good”.

In her review on TripAdvisor, Monique683 said: “Was in the area and decided to try Steakout for the first time, with some friends for dinner and WOW!

“This is by far the best halal steak place I’ve ever been to, starters mains and drinks were amazing and we were starving so were so pleased when it all came out so quickly!

“The steaks were all cooked perfectly just as asked. Amazing service from Sham and the team, everyone was so attentive and friendly, we had a lovely meal with great atmosphere and decor. Will definitely be coming again and trying desserts next time!”

The Duke’s Head is a traditional pub in Farnham Royal, just on the outskirts of Slough.

It serves up classic British food with vegetarian and gluten free options.

Out of 208 reviews, 131 rated The Duke’s Head as “excellent”, and 53 rated is as “very good”.

In her review, MrsBalla said: “We have visited this pub/ restaurant may times with friends and this time last Saturday, with an extra delight.

“We just have to say that we thoroughly enjoyed the meal and entertainment. Elvis was very good and gave a thoroughly enjoyable show.

“The food was excellent with good portions and such value for money.

“Nice comfort food! The waitresses gave brilliant customer service and always with a smile. We will be back!”

The Golden Cross Greene King Pub in the suburban village of Poyle is the eighth best restaurant in Slough.

Out of 272 reviews, 145 rated it “excellent” and 76 rated it “very good”.

In a review, 393heidit said: “I visited the Golden Cross with my mum and aunt for some lunch, unfortunately we arrived after the kitchen had closed however we got chatting to the bar man about the pub and how it had been renovated and within a few minutes the owner/chef came out and offered to cook us lunch, this really said a lot about their customer service, taking time out of his break to cook for us-we were really impressed!

“The food did not disappoint, mum had a perfectly cooked steak and me and my aunty had the ultimate chicken burger- best chicken burger I’ve ever had! Lovely pub, nice chilled atmosphere, very friendly bar man and super chef.

“Definitely going back soon, highly recommend you visit!”

9. The Ostrich Restaurant

The Ostrich is a traditional restaurant with a gastropub menu.

The pub in High Street, Colnbrook has also received praise for its hotel rooms.

Out of 608 reviews, 242 rated The Ostrich “excellent” and 185 rate it “very good”.

Reviewer Peter B said: “A colleague booked three rooms for the final night of a week of customer visits with an important partner from the US and I was a little dubious over his selection.

“I needn’t have worried.

“The bedrooms had all the basics that you would expect and the spacious en-suite bathrooms (with shower) were decorated very well.

“The menu had a good, varied selection and it was easy for our guest to find a tasty vegetarian option. The staff were friendly and looked after us very well.

“No more hiding your head in the sand for an overnight pre-airport stop. Thank you Ostrich Inn.”

10. Kings Head

Excellent or very good reviews – 87 per cent

Food hygiene rating – 5/5

Yet another pub restaurant on this list, The Kings Head is handy for people in Cippenham and a meal after work at the Slough Trading Estate.

It has had some glowing reviews recently with satisfied customers who enjoyed Christmas and New Year’s Eve there.

Out of 102 reviews for the Greene King pub, 69 said it was “excellent” and 20 said it was “very good.”

Reviewer tomhB4728OG said: “Went to the Kings Head for New Year’s Eve, had a meal and stayed until mid-night, the food was reasonable priced and steak was cooked to my liking medium rare.

“Staff were incredibly helpful and nothing was too much trouble even offered table service with drinks during the night!

“Atmosphere was great the bar staff were really putting on a show to make our NYE enjoyable. Thank you Kings Head!”
