"Silliness is what we need" - Britains Got Talent Returns

Alesha Dixon has said the return of Britain’s Got Talent is just what the nation needs as the coronavirus pandemic goes on.

The ITV talent show hosted by Ant and Dec will be back on our screens this weekend.

Speaking on This Morning, judge Dixon said the light-hearted programme would provide some much needed “escapism”.

“Silliness is what we need,” she told hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield.

It was recently announced that the Britain’s Got Talent finals have been postponed until later this year due to the outbreak of the virus.

The audition stage was filmed across the country in January and February and the judges have chosen their favourite acts to go through to the public vote.

However, the winner of the programme is decided in a series of shows held at Wembley Arena in front of a live audience and voted for by the viewing public.

Due to the government lockdown, they cannot go ahead as planned.

Dixon, 41, told This Morning that the auditions were “incredible” and that viewers were in for a treat, revealing: “Children have pretty much taken over BGT this year.”

The star – who is mum to daughters Azura, six, and Anaya, seven months – also opened up about home-schooling amid the pandemic, revealing that she used to dream of being a teacher and gets Azura to call her “Miss Dixon”.

“We are just taking it one day at a time and being as positive as we can,” she added of being in lockdown.

Dixon will be reunited with her fellow Britain’s Got Talent judges Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden and David Walliams when the show returns to ITV on April 11.
