National treasure Astley performed in the town in August – when the Foo Fighters brought him on stage at Reading Festival to belt out his best-known song Never Gonna Give You Up.

However his upcoming performance next month at Reading Town Hall may possibly be a little lower key.

No details have been released about which songs he will be taking on however the BBC promises a mix of traditional, modern, and Gospel hymns.

Although 53-year-old Astley told the BBC in an interview “I’m not really religious” his 2016 album – entitled “50” – featured tracks including God Says, Angels On My Side and Pray With Me.

During the 2016 interview he said: “I’ve got a faith but I’m not exactly sure what it’s in – it’s mainly in human beings I think.

“But when you do gigs there’s definitely an emotion you have in contact with other people – and it does come close to religion if I’m honest.

“There’s a real joy in it – there just isn’t a negative moment.”
