Prince Harry choked up as he discussed becoming a father live on stage at the WellChild awards in London on Tuesday night.
The 35 year old was accompanied by his wife, Meghan Markle, 38, to the awards ceremony, which champions inspiring ill children.
As patron for the charity, Harry attends each year, but got particularly emotional as he discussed how the WellChild charity means so much more to him now that he is a father himself.
After giving out awards to the youngsters, Harry fought back tears as he gave an emotional speech, with host Gaby Roslin having to join him on stage.
He told the crowd: “My wife and I feel incredibly privileged to be able to join you once again at this year’s WellChild awards and to be in a room with such amazing human beings.
“It has been over a decade since I first came to these awards and every year they never fail to surprise and inspire me.”
He continued: “Yet this year, it resonates in a different way because now I’m a father.
“Last year when my wife and I attended we knew that we were expecting our first child. No one else did at the time, but we did and…”
Harry then stopped talking as he fought back tears, with Gaby rushing to his side to give him a reassuring rub on the arm as the crowd cheered him on.
Meghan spoke to an 11 year old girl who won Most Caring Child Award at the ceremony after caring for her sister Sophie, who passed away after a battle with Aicardi Syndrome in 2018.
The young girl’s mum then revealed the Duchess of Sussex had discussed the colour of Archie’s hair, spilling that he had “tufts of reddish hair.”
After her daughter asked if Archie had red hair, she said: “Megan said he has and Harry said he definitely is, you can see it in his eyebrows.
“Harry said he’d had no hair for five months, but Meghan told him she had taken him to the playgroup and she said there were other children there with the same amount of hair or even less.”
Earlier this week, Prince Harry was seen enjoying an intimate moment with his baby son Archie and wife Meghan in an unseen clip from a trailer for a new ITV documentary detailing their African trip.
In the new trailer for their documentary, Harry and Meghan: An African Journey, the royal couple look smitten with their little one as Harry can be seen bouncing his son in his arms.
Meghan then sweetly kisses Archie and strokes him in the head in the adorable moment which was captured by cameras.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex gave royal fans their first full glimpse of their son as they took him for tea with Archbishop Desmond Tutu and his daughter, Thandeka Tutu-Gxashe in September.
With the royal couple sharing several behind-the-scenes videos of the engagement on their Instagram account, some fans have picked up on Meghan’s adorable nickname for her baby boy as they listened closely to the clip.
In one video, the Duchess can he heard trying to get Archie to wave for the Archbishop, with Meghan calling him “bubba” twice.
“Say hello! Hello, hi!,” doting mum Meghan says, before little Archie snuggles up to her and starts to drool.
Giggling while holding her son, the Duchess says: “Oh, Bubba!,” Meghan is then heard calling Archie “bubba” again in a second video of the couple walking up to the legacy foundation building in Cape Town.
