Paul Hollywood has told how he was ‘shocked and upset’ when he heard that Sandi Toksvig was quitting The Great British Bake Off.
Sandi had been standing alongside Noel Fielding for the past three years, with Prue Leith and Paul as the resident judges. However, in January she announced she was whisking off to new pastures and would be leaving the show, much to the shock of well, pretty much everyone. ‘
It was a surprise, and I was really upset,’ Paul began.
‘I’m very fond of Sandi. She was never too busy to sit down, have a chat and put the world to rights.’
‘We shared a couple of drinks and had some good times together. I’m going to miss her,’ he added to The Radio Times.
Earlier this month, Sandi hung up her apron for good as the Celebrity Bake Off was her last time in the tent. Although fans weren’t disappointed as she was joined by a host of famous faces including Kelly Brook, Mo The Comedian, Carol Vorderman and Judge Robert Rinder.
Sandi will be replaced by comedian Matt Lucas, who was announced as the show’s new host in March, just before the coronavirus lockdown shut down the UK.
Although fans will have to wait to find out what Matt will be like on screen as coronavirus has meant the next series has been postponed until the government considers it safe to continue.
‘We were supposed to start filming in about three weeks time,’ Matt later told Steph McGovern.
‘But obviously we’re just following the government guidelines and whenever they say it’s safe to make it, we’ll make it.’
