New Visitors Centre To Come To Caerphilly

Caerphilly County Borough Council has secured funding to develop a new visitor centre at Parc Penallta and has received £900,000 from the Welsh Government as part of the Valleys Regional Park Discovery Gateway Capital Grant.

This project will complement the previous investments made at the site over 20 years and deliver a much-needed facility at this location. The plan is for a multi-purpose visitor centre at Parc Penallta, incorporating education facilities, a café and conference centre. It would act as a health hub, with toilets and showers for those taking part in activities. Schools and local activity groups, like walking clubs, would be invited to use the modern centre. It will be fully accessible, with indoor and outdoor seating.

Funding secured for Parc Penallta visitor centre

The building will be a flagship development and demonstrate “Best Practice” and will incorporate the latest renewable technologies, ensuring the long-term sustainability of the building for future generations. The structure will incorporate local materials and labour, in particular timber available in the area.

The café within the proposed Parc Penallta Visitor Centre will have stunning views over the valley and woodland, providing an excellent experience for residents and visitors to absorb the fantastic landscape in the Mid Valley area. The café will be franchised and provide a new opportunity for a hospitality business.
Cllr Nigel George, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood Services, said: “We are delighted that such a significant sum has been secured from the Welsh Government for the planned Parc Penallta Visitor Centre. It will be an important hub for residents of all ages, maximising healthcare provision and helping showcase the park’s natural beauty.”
