Facebook will now operate as a parent company under this logo
Facebook has unveiled a new logo it will use to represent itself as a parent company. That means you’ll start to see the all-caps branding on all the platforms owned by the company – including the regular Facebook app as well as WhatsApp and Instagram.
You’ll also see it on hardware that the company manufactures, like the Oculus VR headset or the Portal video conferencing speaker. The new ‘Facebook’ logo was announced through an official blog post alongside a GIF of it in various different colours representing the different platforms that Facebook owns.
‘We needed the wordmark to establish distinction from the Facebook app and allow for a clearer connection to the full family of technologies,’ wrote Antonio Lucio, Facebook’s chief marketing officer.
‘The new brand system uses custom typography, rounded corners, open tracking and capitalization to create visual distinction between the company and the app.’
‘We designed the new company wordmark with clarity and openness in mind’
Facebook says it will start splashing the logo around in ‘the coming weeks’ so you’ll start to see it on things like the login page for Instagram.
Considering the last few years have been particularly rocky for the main Facebook app, this is likely an effective way to try and distance some parts of the business from other parts.
