Dorset Holiday Home gets Gold

A Weymouth holiday home has picked up gold in a national travel awards scheme.

Sykes Holiday Cottages has named Beachside Cottage in Preston as the ‘Best for Beaches’ winner in this year’s Gems Awards – thanks to the nearby Bowleaze Cove which is just 20 seconds from the front door.

From the cottage, which first opened in 2015, visitors can see views of Dorset’s coast from Portland to Lulworth.

The Sykes Gem Awards celebrate the best people and properties in the UK’s holiday cottage sector. They were judged this year by a panel of industry experts including The Sun’s deputy travel editor Jacob Lewis.

Beachside Cottage beat off tough competition from other shortlisted properties. However, the judging panel were impressed by the style and facilities on offer, along with guest feedback on cleanliness, comfort and value for money.

Harriet Kerr, Commercial Director at Sykes Holiday Cottages, said: “It’s brilliant that the best rental property in the whole UK for beach holidays is in the Dorset region, and the award is testament to the hard work of the owner and the beautiful beaches on our doorstep.

“More and more travellers are opting for staycations over holidays on the continent, and last year we saw a real boost in bookings to Dorset. Because of this, those with a second home or money to invest are increasingly turning to holiday letting.”
