Marks and Spencer’s iconic Colin the Caterpillar cake has undergone an Easter makeover – but some customers have compared it to the bunny from Donnie Darko.
Colin the Caterpillar should be the first name on the guest list for any occassion.
Birthdays, weddings, Christmas – everyone’s favourite chocolate sponge roll cake wearing a delicious coat and endearing smile will always be a welcome addition.
With Easter approaching, Marks & Spencer has given Colin an Easter Bunny-themed look with white chocolate rabbit ears and mini orange carrots, as reported by Wales Online.
It sounds adorable, right? The only problem is the result has left customers feeling creeped out by his makeover.
Some even compared the poor caterpillar to the Halloween rabbit from Donnie Darko, warning it ‘could scare children and the elderly’.
The Easter cake was shared on the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK Facebook group, where it divided opinion with some who thought Colin looked ‘yummy’ and others thought otherwise.
One commented: “Most disturbing looking bunny I’ve ever seen!”
A second joked: “Looks like the bunny from Donnie Darko. They should save it for Halloween, it looks demonic.”
Another wrote: “It looks possessed and since when has a rabbit had 6 legs… Defo won’t be buying”
Some parents were worried that poor, innocent Colin would be too scary for their children, with one replying: “Jeez looks like the rabbit from Donnie Darko!!!! My daughter would freak out looking at that.”
Another commented: “Is it just me or does that rabbit look evil? Kinda crazy ? I think that cake would scare children and the elderly!”
But, thankfully, others were still more than willing to welcome Colin into their Easter celebrations with open arms.
One wrote: “It’s a fabulous tasty cake I have to say.”
A second said: “Looks good and tastes good too.”
The Easter Bunny version of Colin the Caterpillar will go on sale on March 31 and will be available in stores across the country, retailing at £10.
