Tanya Jacobs from Bracknell played for the England women’s walking football team in the Southern League on Sunday, February 23, which was the first time in 27 years that that the four team members played together.

With the full support behind Bracknell Town Walking Football Club and the chairman, the team went on to win all three games against Tottenham Ladies, Walton Ladies and Canterbury Old Bags.

She said: “Winning was obviously fantastic but we all came away from the day having enjoyed playing together, being part of a team is priceless and for most it had been a long time, and we laughed a lot.”

The 47-year-old joined Bracknell Town Walking football team in February and could not believe how she made it to playing at an “international level.”

With competing in the England team, Tanya hoped to encourage more local women to join the Bracknell Town team so they can enter the Southern League.

The mum added: “I love how accessible it it. All ages can join and take part in it. The oldest man is 90 in the men’s team.

“Walking football has given a new lease of life, some men who lost their wives never left the house before and now they come and socialise.”

“We still need more ladies, 40 plus to come and join us on Thursday nights at Bracknell Leisure Centre from 7 to 8pm. All levels are welcome.”

The next leg of the League is on the Sunday, April 19, when the team hope to keep up their winning streak.
