An uninsured driver could have earned more than a hundred penalty points after setting off 32 speed cameras at an average speed of 83mph in a 60mph zone.
The motorist was stopped in a white 7 Series BMW between junctions 14 and 15 of the M6 near Stoke-on-Trent on Monday.
The driver had sped through a stretch of 60mph roadworks at 83mph and activated 32 speed cameras. Police also discovered the car had two worn tyres.
Central Motorway Police Group tweeted: ‘BMW stopped due to activating 32 speed cameras at very high speeds in @StaffsPolice.
‘Whilst we were following it we recorded its average speed of 83mph in the roadworks 60s in thick fog. Driver detained & BMW seized no insurance & #PG9Â x2 bald tyres.’
The 32 speeding offences could land him 96 points on his licence. Having worn tyres is usually another three points and no insurance is between six and eight, totally a possible 107.
Amused social media users questioned the driver’s IQ and guessed how many points they may have racked up.Â
Jason Crisp said: ‘Do you ever test a driver for IQ? Are you even allowed to?
‘They most surely know they will get stopped, they either don’t care or don’t consider it will happen.
‘More worryingly is the danger they present to law abiding road users. Good stop CMPG.’
Kate Garlick said: ‘Don’t crush the car. Not environmentally friendly.
‘Change the law so police can legally seize car and auction it off with proceeds going to road crime victims.
‘Criminal deprived of their car and money raised to help those who need it. Win win in my book.’
Eddie Downard added: ‘Lengthy ban and ridiculously high insurance to pay IF they have insurance after all those points go on to licence.’
Another said: ‘Thirty two cameras, plus two bald tyres, and 83mph. I reckon that’s 105 points at least.
‘By the time he gets his license back the only place he’ll be able to drive is an internal combustion engine theme park.’Â
