Geraldo Rivera did a 180 after defending ex-Today Show anchor Matt Lauer. He offered an apology in the following tweet.
“Reaction to my tweets today on #sexharassment makes clear I didn’t sufficiently explain that this is a horrendous problem long hidden-Harassers are deviants who deserve what is coming to them-Often victims are too frightened to come forward in a timely fashion-I humbly apologize.”
The Fox News personality seemed to completely change direction within a few hours making it questionable whether the apology was sincere.
Based on his earlier chain of tweets defending Matt Lauer, it seemed Geraldo explained his position very clearly. Using words to describe Lauer’s firing as ‘sad,’ and ‘great guy’ and he’s in a ‘flirty business’ caused a significant backlash.
Although the apology may not have come from the most genuine place, at least Geraldo felt scared or guilty enough to actually make it.
