The owner of a Texas eatery is being called transphobic for photos of Caitlyn and Bruce Jenner (before and after transition) covering the bathroom doors in his establishment.
Dallas Morning News editor Dom DiFurio posted an image of the bathroom doors at Dodie’s Place Cajun Bar & Grill. The pictures were installed in mid-August, according to the restaurant’s Facebook page.
DiFurio told the Daily Dot that the restaurant isn’t “seated in a progressive area” and that he “wouldn’t consider it a particularly great place to be LGBTQ.”
After The Daily Dot published an article calling the images “incredibly insensitive.” Many were quick to defend the Allen, Texas establishment on Facebook and Twitter, suggesting that the use of Jenner’s images was merely a joke.
Others, however, were quick to call out the doors as distasteful and denigrating toward transgender people.
Hate against the transgender community remains deep and widespread ― so much so that one study found that transgender adults were “14 times more likely to think about suicide and 22 times more likely to attempt suicide than the general public,” according to United Press International.
Owner Kyle McPherson didn’t speak to the press but did reportedly write on Facebook, under a pseudonym, that the photos “FINALLY” grabbed the attention of the media.
