So news broke over the weekend that famed American film producer has been fired from his own company. Chalk another win for feminism.
The board of directors released the information on Sunday night in a statement.
“In light of new information about misconduct by Harvey Weinstein that has emerged in the past few days, the directors of The Weinstein Company – Robert Weinstein, Lance Maerov, Richard Koenigsberg and Tarak Ben Ammar – have determined, and have informed Harvey Weinstein, that his employment with The Weinstein Company is terminated, effective immediately,” the company said in a statement.
The ‘sexual predator’ rumors about Harvey Weinstein was uncovered by the New York Times, and allegations go back to when he was head of Miramax.
The 65-year-old producer has been losing allies, including his own brother who voted to oust him.
“After their mother died, Bob did not feel like he needed to protect Harvey anymore and cover for him,” the insider said. “That was over.”
Several actresses came out accusing Harvey of misconduct including Ashley Judd. And now actress icon Meryl Streep is voicing her repulsion towards the longtime collaborator and producer.
“The disgraceful news about Harvey Weinstein has appalled those of us whose work he championed, and those whose good and worthy causes he supported,” said Streep in a statement Monday. “The intrepid women who raised their voices to expose this abuse are our heroes.”
The actress stated not everyone in Hollywood knew that Harvey had settlements of sexual accusations.
The Oscar-winner further claimed, “I didn’t know about these other offenses: I did not know about his financial settlements with actresses and colleagues; I did not know about his having meetings in his hotel room, his bathroom, or other inappropriate, coercive acts. And If everybody knew, I don’t believe that all the investigative reporters in the entertainment and the hard news media would have neglected for decades to write about it.”
And did Streep feel the reasons Harvey gave for his actions reasonable? Nope.
“The behavior is inexcusable, but the abuse of power familiar,” said Streep. “Each brave voice that is raised, heard and credited by our watchdog media will ultimately change the game.”
With Hollywood elites coming out against Harvey Weinstein why have late night talk show hosts been so shamefully silent?
I mean it was quite a bombshell of sexual harassment allegations against a well known Hollywood executives. Is it just a case of kissing ass? Or fear of retribution by these comedians?
On Friday, The Daily Beast, among other outlets, called out comedians like Jimmy Kimmel, Jimmy Fallon, Seth Myers, James Corden and Stephen Colbert for not addressing the story in their Thursday shows.
These hosts have addressed other ‘hot’ issues with less lead time than the Harvey Weinstein drama. So it seems that the talk show hosts were either covering their asses, kissing the executive ass, or were just intimidated and didn’t have the balls to comment on the issue.
Here’s what Jimmy Kimmel had to say about the story that is rocking his industry.
In the meantime, Kimmel brought up ‘again’ an older story about the POTUS, which he and other late night hosts ‘did’ previously make fun of.
Yes, President Donald Trump was obnoxious and speaking wrongly about treating women. I think that’s already been established, Jimmy Kimmel.
So why the lack of balls by Kimmel on addressing Harvey Weinstein? Maybe because he wasn’t man enough to attack the Hollywood elite.
Other similar sexual accusation stories were well covered by late night hosts like Bill O’Reilly and Roger Ailes.
Of course, O’Reilly and Ailes are better known to the general public than Weinstein, and Trump was running for — and now holds — the most powerful political position in the country. But it’s still raising eyebrows that prominent comedians have apparently been less gung-ho about mocking or criticizing people more in line with their own politics and closer to their own industry. Stephen Colbert has since made a small joke on Twitter about the Weinstein accusations.
It is believed that Weinstein allegedly grabbed the breasts of an Italian model, and giving $100,000 to settle with actress Rose McGowan.
Another explosive allegation emerged on Friday, after a local TV news anchor revealed to HuffPost that Weinstein allegedly trapped her in an empty hallway and masturbated in front of her.
A third of the board at The Weinstein Company have bailed over these sexual accusations.
Here’s a desperate email from Harvey Weinstein to try and keep his job.
