She’s one of the reigning queens in the modeling world right now. Gigi Hadid has been on major magazine covers both in the United States and Internationally. She’s even been seen by millions on television walking the catwalk in Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.
Gigi’s set to walk in this year’s show too but that didn’t keep her from making fun of the people in the hosting country.
All that success, fame, money, and power may have gone to Gigi’s head.
It was announced recently that Gigi would once again walk in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. This year it’s being held in Shanghai, China.
But instead of being grateful for this opportunity Gigi mocked the people of China. Actually, it was all people of Asian descent with a video that lasted about nine seconds.
And the offense was very clear even the camera operator zoomed-in on Gigi’s eyes making fun of Asian people.
Once the video got out and Gigi realized that Asians were offended she took quick action apologizing on Chinese social media site Weibo.
“It hurts me to hurt anyone, and I want you all to know that it was never my intent to offend anyone through my actions and I sincerely apologise to those who were hurt or felt let down by me. I have the utmost respect and love for the people of China and cherish the incredible memories I have made while visiting in the past,” began the apology.
Gigi continues… “I have learned to be very careful of how my actions can come off or be portrayed and I’m hopeful you’ll accept my apology. I hope to meet many of you and let you get to know me for me. I do not condone hurtful behaviour and want people and fans of all backgrounds to know they are welcomed, loved and respected around me and by me.”
But Gigi’s critics questioned her true motives in apologizing.
Those hurt by Gigi’s offense expected an apology on all social media channels that she uses.
So it would seem that since Gigi hasn’t used all her social media platforms people are refusing to take her apology seriously.
Some even told her she’s not welcomed in China.
It would seem from Gigi’s standpoint she hopes to keep a lid on the Asian offense made as much as possible hoping it’ll just go away.
