After enduring an onslaught of criticism which stemmed from a comment condemning the “alt-left” and violent protests she’s having to do some damage control. What’s wrong with condemning violence or the “alt-left?” Everything is wrong with anti-Antifa comments if you happen to be a politician, public figure, or in this case a Hollywood Actress.
An adamant anti-Trumper, ‘Molly’s Game’ actress, Jessica Chastain got into some trouble when she decided to share a time magazine article on violence and the ‘problem’ with Alt-left.
That peaceful statement was enough to get some of her fans in an uproar. Chastain then had the audacity to post a Martin Luther King Jr.’s statement about non-violent protest.
One follower hit back with another part of King Jr.’s speech that discusses disappointment in “White Moderate.”
Chastain then replied that her skin color shouldn’t be a part of the discussion, but her stance on injustice should.
“If the color of my skin is going to cause you to generalize, perhaps you should look back over whether or not I’ve been silent to injustice,”
By near week’s end, Chastain was close to an emotionally collapse in the tearful video below.
In the video Chastain discusses her heavy heart over the backlash and ensured followers that transformative social change is still important to her.
“I’m making a video because my heart is very heavy,” Chastain said. “I’ve learned so much the past few days about the trauma many people are experiencing in our country. I’ve had the opportunity to listen, more than to speak, and it’s really hard for me to express my feelings, my thoughts, in 140 characters.”
“I wanted you guys to know that I hear you,” she continued “I want you to know that I’m committed to creating transformative social change, that I’m committed to dismantling systems of oppression. I share in the sense of what is happening in the country.”
“I hear you,” she concluded. “You may never have met me, but I love you.”
